Why Join NWU?

The Twin Cities Local of the National Writers Union – known, within the Union, as Local 13 – has many successful book authors, journalists, poets, business writers, and technical writers among its members. Members include writers across the whole state of Minnesota, including a large contingent in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.

Writers join the NWU for a variety of reasons. Some join in order to receive contract advice or grievance assistance, for access to the national Job Hotline, or for "Media Perils Insurance," an affordable liability policy. Others are attracted to the many opportunities the union offers to enhance their professional development, including monthly speaker presentations for each of the following divisions:

• Business/Technical Writers
• Literary Writers
• Writers For Change

And then there’s the sheer joy of camaraderie, of finding a place where writers of every flavor can come together to befriend each other, help each other, learn from each other, and work together.
